To guard is to watch over in order to protect or control.
Guarding our heart is so critical in maintaining a holy and righteous life required of us as believers yet I rarely see it being lived out to its full potential.

Proverbs 4:23 “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”
Jeremiah 17:9-10 “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it? “I the Lord search the heart and test the mind, to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his deeds.”

Matthew 15:19  “For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft ,false witness, slander.”
I’m convinced that there is no “self-help” or man-made strategy as to how to guard our hearts. Even the best sounding logical strategy could lead us down the road to an impure heart. Only Gods truth and his word can purify the heart. His word, His statuses, His way, is what purifies the heart.
Psalm 119:9-11 “How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word. With my whole heart I seek you; let me not wander from your commandments! I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.”
Guarding our heart from people isn’t biblical though many of us somehow get that from scripture. We guard our heart from the lies people may speak yes but not the actual person. There is a huge difference. Guarding our heart from people is associated with rejecting people and being distant out of fear. To be watchful doesn’t require us to run but to stand our ground and protect (guard).

The problem is we know what we are protecting but don’t fully understand what we are protecting our hearts from! We are watchman not knowing what we are watching for!

All we know is something causes our emotions to react so we either just run or we fight the wrong way! We fight from the feelings or the pain rather the truth that triumphs over any lie or what may even be true. Furthermore, it’s because we don’t even know what “the truth” is! We aren’t confident in “the truth” which is the actual guard we use to protect our hearts! We are on the battle field using the wrong shield or form of protection wondering why we seemingly keep losing!

Friends, Gods truth is our guard!
If you don’t know “The truth” how are you guarding your heart? Not knowing it is an easy target for the enemy to get you to blame people and even yourself and ultimately take you from your position as a watchman and run but listen,

Ephesians 6:10-18! READ IT!

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God,so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place,15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.

What are you running from, Victory? God’s word is how we fight!
The enemy’s strategy is to make you think you’ve lost. God is just asking that you guard, protect and watch over what he has already freely given to us!
The victory belongs to Jesus!

It was finished on the cross!
